Johanna is looking at the 'Carp.' collection of Rubiaceae (family) Gardenia (genus). The 'Carp.' collection of fruits is housed in beautiful handmade archival boxes, and stored in drawers. This one contains a seed found by Reverend (!) W.J.L. Wenger, when he was travelling in 'East Bengal' in 1933.
Reading the labels makes me curious of the personal stories of the collectors, and impressed by the international network of scientists and explorers embodied in this collection.
I have started photographing the seed pods from different species within the Gardenia genus - there is well over 600 specimen of Gardenia in the drawers, although some from the same species.
